Services in Chemical Compliance

Safety Data Sheets

CRS-US provides a single, US-based point of contact to generate, maintain, and update SDSs that comply with the complex, changing regulatory environments in over 40 countries.

The Safety Data Sheet (SDS) is the central global communication tool for the hazard communication of chemical products in the supply chain. The SDS provides all hazard- and safety-related information in a transparent and clear manner.

For example, the safety data sheet provides information on the Classifications & Labelling (C&L), safe use and risk management measures for workers/users and the environment. The hazard label takes up this important information and displays it in abbreviated form on the substance's packaging.

To harmonize the content of a SDS on a global scale, the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) was developed. GHS has been adopted into national law by numerous countries worldwide, e.g. USA (Hazard Communication Standard – HCS), Europe (CLP-Regulation), Japan (JIS), Australia (WHS Act) and many more.

Our experts ensure compliance with all applicable regulations including the UN’s Globally Harmonized System (GHS), OSHA’s Hazard Communication System (HCS/Hazcom 2012), the EU’s Classification, Labeling and Packaging Regulation (CLP-Regulation), and various national chemical regulations.

While GHS provides a robust framework for the Classification & Labelling of chemical products, there are still a lot of possible differences between SDSs for one and the same product, depending on the country the SDS is issued for. This is due to the possibility for deviations in the adopted scope of GHS and furthermore the constant development of GHS, which leads to different revision levels being implemented.
